Narrow 12mo., rich maroon leather. Standard printed diary format with fully manuscript entries. Two page handwritten introduction, 365 pages of diary and 22 pages of personal financial accounts and addresses. Nichols lived in Columbus, Cherokee County, Kansas. He is married and has one son., Floyd T. Nichols. There 30 lines per page, densely written-every dated page is filled with writing (there are some blank pages at end of diary after December ends). Laid in: 15 small pieces of ephemera, mostly newspaper clippings. Some sample lines: "The news looks as if our Government would become involved in trouble with Italy over the killing of several Italians in New Orleans for the murder of the Chief of Police in that city" (May 10) ;"There was a hard storm last Friday night that passed east of where I am and I can see a church that was ruined by the storm . There was a great deal of damage did all along the road from here to Kansas City. I shall work in the track of the tornado and see what I can do" (August 24). Good plus, spine ends chipped down halfinch top and bottom. Binding secure; text clean. (a87525)
