Hardcover. 4to. xii, 270pp., (2), 12 original albumen photographs by Francis Frith (all with original tissue guard except frontis), original gilt decorated plum-colored cloth. All edges gilt. Attractive photos in VG condition- images bright and not faded, foxing in margins of all plates. Most of the photographs are views of cities and countryside including Drachenfels and the Siebengiebirg from Rolandseck, Heidelberg Castle, Birkenau, Meyringen, Interlache, Innsbruck, Landeck, Stuttgard. Good, rear inner hinge cracked, light occasional foxing, rear outer hinge professionally repaired, light cover wear. (a66840)

Owner name stamp inside front cover and on fore-edges. Fairly Good, album worn, cover stained. Photos are VG, except first one which has a 1 cm hole in the middle. New York 1900 first edition Underwood & Underwood. The included book is a small octavo hardcover, 195p., large foldout map in rear, green cloth with black lettering and gilt decoration. Book is designed to fit into original hatbox-style black box with the stereograph views . The book has a matching slide-on lid with title "Palestine" on top of box printed in gilt. Book is VG plus, with faint white spotting on cover. With book are 98 of the original 100 stereoptical photographs mounted on stereo cards. Photos are Fine. Box is VG with light wear. West Chester area, Pennsylvania (S. H. Evans; James A. Pyle) . FAMILY PHOTOGRAPH ALBUM FROM WEST CHESTER, PENNSYLVANIA C. 1860
Beautifully bound, dark brown full leather photograph album with deeply raised horizontal bands, outlined in gilt with fully functioning decorative brass clasps, each clasp with a white mounted glass ball . Eight matching white glass balls mounted in the four corners of the front and rear boards. All edge edges and edges are decoratively embossed. Album contains 35 original photographs of family members, apparently from are of West Chester, Pennsylvania judging from the photographers named on the rear of the cards. Photos are mostly 2-1/2 x 4 inches, a few are tiny tintype cameos mounted on 2x4 inch white cards. About 20 of the frames are empty. Rear inner hinge is cracked and both outer hinges are worn but still holding. Page margins are lightly soiled. Album beginning to crack vertically through spine. Photographers listed include: E. S. Marshall, Charles Jaggard and R. B. Mumford of West Chester; Henrici Carns and L. Horning of Philadelphia; George M. Bretz of Pottsville; others. Two of the photographs are signed in ink by the subjects: James A Pyle and S. H. Evans. (a87519)

Large album of 50 original what appear to be albumen photographs of Paris mounted one per stiff heavy panel. No date given but from clothing and transportation shown indicates c. 1888. All photos present and all are titled in French on the board beneath each photo. Album is 14-1/2 x 10-1/2 inches (38 x 27 cm). Photographs are 10-3/4 x 8 inches (27 x 20.5 cm). Photographer not given. No titles appear etched in images themselves. All views indentified (in French) above and beneath images. Most of the photos are VG or better, several are lightly faded. Nice detail. Many street scenes --Rue de Rivoli, L'Avenue de l'Opera, Place de la Republique,etc; gardens; monuments, architecture; landscape; Versailles; Trianon. All edges bright gilt; Binding solid, no pages detached. "Jules Hautecoeur 172 Rue de Rivoli" is printed in gilt on front under a large fancifully printed "Paris". Hautecoeur worked as a publisher in France from 1885-1899. Good, leather spine is frayed on ends and album cover is somewhat worn and soiled. Scarce. (a87566)
