1767 Dun-Eudain, Le Balfour, Auld agus Smellie. This is the first printing of the New Testament in Scots Gaelic. Hardcover. First edition. Sm.8vo., about 600pp. double column text. Full leather with old paper strip reinforcing front outer hinge. Ink inscription on title page. Last word in text, centered on bottom line, is "Crioch" so appears to be complete. Does lack front and rear blanks and a frontispiece if it ever had one. It now opens to titlepage. Fairly Good, front inner hinge cracked; leaves lightly browned; coverall somewhat worn but binding secure and solid. Contemporary inscription written in brown ink on titlepage reads: "Simon Hosack. Purchased by John McArthur at a public sale of the Rev. Dr. Hosack's Library and presented to his friend John Grant , 9 April 1848". Dr. Hosack , 1755-1833 was Presbyterian minister in Johnstown, Fulton county, New York. John Grant, 1836-1893 also lived in Johnstown. **Pictures available on request. (a51942)
