In Officina Birckmannica 1641. Folio, 47 leaves, printed on rectos only. Each leaf has 1 inch margin on four sides, with a decorative border enclosing the text. There are various stains affecting many (but not all) the leaves, with a darkening of some leaves but text still legible text. One narrow worm hole at top of first few leaves, falling outside the decorative border and hence not affecting text except for three leaves where the title of the leaf is in the top margin outside the border (in which case the worm hole affects a single letter). The leaves are not too worn; there are a few small closed tears on the right margin of the final leaf and one tiny worn hole in the right margin of the last few leaves. In full Armorial Vellum, which is worn along the edges, toned and stained. (a37859)

Manuscript (apparently autograph) in form of a diary. Dated Marzo 1687 Venetia. On March 5, 1684, Austria, Poland and Venice formed the Holy League, all pledging to fight the Turks and not to conclude any separate peace agreements. The bulk of the war fell to the Austrians.The The Turks were defeated in 1685 at the Siege of Neuhaesusel and at Gran. They had controlled Budapest since 1541, but the Austrian victory September 2, 1686 ended the second siege of this city. This war lasted until the Treaty of Karlowitz Jan 26, 1699, marking the suppression of Turkish power in Europe and the cession of lands to Austria and Poland. This present manuscript is a copy of the report from Vienna, Warsaw and areas in between by Antonio Fiordimassi, the Venetian ambassador to the Imperial Court, on the conduct of the war in Hungary and the Balkans The dispatches were written at weekly intervals between August 26, 1684, and October 27, 1686 and provide a detailed and likely unrecorded account of the Austrian campaign. None of the major collections of Venetian ambassadorial reports include the present text including Alberi, Fiedler, Pribam and Barozzi-Berchet. Written in Italian in neat, easy to read, cursive script on both sides of page. Large octavo (6 x 7-3/4 inches) , 451pp., vellum over boards, red morocco label mounted on spine with title stamped in gilt. From libraries of Frederick North, 5th Earl of Guilford, and of Sir Thomas Phillipps (recent ownership papers are available.) In Very Good plus condition with lovely color end papers. Dated in text December 20, 1659. Printed on one side only. 12 x 14 inches. Folded once in middle. Top half is explanatory text, lower half is list of the names of about 300 men who support the declaration. A one -inch wide strip along right side of the original is missing and has been very professionally repaired (repair appears to be at least 100 years old). The missing strip takes the final word from most but not all lines and second half of surnames in the final row on the lower half. Top margin slightly cropped so that the top of the A in title is missing top third. Otherwise broadside is good, no foxing and not much wear. Possibly removed from larger binding at some point in time. Text begins: Whereas by a wonderfull Revolution of the Divine Providence, those Members of the long Parliament which were stangely brought (May the 7, 1659) and as strangely outed by them (Octob. the 13, 1659), are now strangely returned to sit in the House as before, ....(etc) (a76185)
